Attack of the budworms

An infestation in northern Quebec threatens to transform Canadian forests as we know them.

Some of the swarms of moths they grow into are so big,  they can been seen on radar.

This series was shot in Baie Comeau, Quebec, for an article by Patti Sontag for Walrus magazine about the infestation of the spruce budworm that is devastating Quebec fir trees. The real story however,  is how the forestry industry is responding in a way that may make the situation worse, not better.
